We serve an amazing God. We serve a loving God. We serve a gracious God. My Pastor, Rick Warren, articulates, “Christianity is not a religion or a philosophy, but a relationship and a lifestyle”. And it can be the BEST relationship of your life if you accept our risen King as your savior. Our Heavenly Father desires to know you. What better way to get to know someone than to find out who they are? I believe it is essential to learn the names of our great Lord so we can truly see and know His character and grow deeper in a relationship with Him.
I detailed all the names of our Lord below. Getting to know Him in this way can help you find a deeper connection and grow in relationship with Him more!
THE CREATOR. Elohim. Can be found in the Old Testament for “God” and is the name for God as Creator. “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” –Revelation 4:11
THE GOD MOST HIGH. El Elyon. It is the name for our sovereign ruler over the entire universe. “I will cry to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me”. -Psalm 57:2
THE GOD WHO SEES. El Roi. God knows our hearts. He is omnipresent and aware of our circumstances. He sees ALL things. “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, watching the evil and the good” – Proverbs 15:3
THE ALL-SUFFICIENT ONE: El Shaddai. He loves us with an everlasting love. God is the only one who will ever be able to meet your needs. He designed us to long for Him and have a relationship with Him. He protects us. “Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, ‘I am God Almighty [El Shaddai]; walk before me and be blameless.” – Genesis 17:1
THE LORD. Adonai. Our Lord and Master. Give God complete control of your life and He promises to take care of you and meet your needs. He knows you and knows what is best for your life. He is good and He is good all the time. “I said to the LORD, You are my LORD [Adonai], and I have no good beside you.” – Psalm 16:2
THE LORD WILL PROVIDE. Jehovah-jireh. God needs you and wants you. The essence of His being is to love, to give, to be more than self-constrained. He desires to meet the needs of those He created in His own image. “And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
THE LORD WHO HEALS. Jehovah-rapha. God has healed my life in many ways. He has turned darkness into light and has healed me from my sins. You can seek healing from God. He can heal brokenness, bodies, emotions, souls, spirits, and illnesses. “Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for You are my praise.” – Jeremiah 17:14
THE LORD MY BANNER. Jehovah-nissi. My mentor taught me that the word banner means “guide”. Look to our God to be your banner, your guide. “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in His triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.” – 2 Corinthians 2:14
THE LORD WHO SANCTIFIES YOU. Jehovah-mekoddishkem. There can be no sanctification without redemption. The death of Christ provides for our redemption. And the purpose of our redemption is to make us righteous and to make us holy. “And you shall keep My statues and practice them; I am the LORD who sanctifies you.” – Leviticus 20:8
THE LORD IS PEACE. Jehovah-shalom. I can’t tell you how many times I have felt God’s peace. It is an AMAZING feeling. True peace cannot be found except in a relationship with God. “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubles, nor let it be fearful.” – John 14:27
THE LORD OF HOSTS. Jehovah- sabaoth. This is the name to run to when you are in need of help. Call upon our Lord of hosts and you will find deliverance. His name is there as a strong tower for us to call on. “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.” – Psalm 46:7
THE LORD MY SHEPHERD. Jehovah-raah. The Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want. Continuously throughout the Bible God refers to us as sheep. I don’t know if you know this… but sheep are dumb. Helpless! Even though we do dumb things and are in no way perfect, we have help because our Lord is our shepherd. “Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” – Psalm 23:6
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jehovah-tsidkenu. You can be right with God. God can soften your heart. Righteous is more than goodness. It is to do what God says is right, to live according to His standards. “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:21
THE LORD IS THERE. Jehovah- sammah. We are never alone. God is there longing to be your future and your hope. His presence is with us and the gift of the Holy Spirit resides within us. “And those who know our name will put their trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.” – Psalm 9:10
My hope is that I will be able to help others see who God is. Connect to our Father in prayer. Ask Him to show you who He is. Be in a loving relationship with our Father. I absolutely love glitter, coloring, pens, crafting, sparkles, and highlighting! I wrote out all the names of our Father as a reminder of who He is. Please feel free to do the same. The Father & the Son love you!Be C.H.I.C
